Black Powder ' Battle of Many Creeks" AWI 28mm

British forces under Cornwallis move into a heavily defended area in Virginia in the delta region of the Carolinas. Loosely affiliates Privateers and Militia with Three battalions of Spanish allied infantry operated in opposition. The privateers operated as bloodthirsty war bands with untested stamina. Together the 5 bands were enough to catch the Queens Rangers 1st Regiment in March Column causing sufficient damage to force a retreat and hold off and defeat the 1st British Legion Cavalry Regiment. The British Highlanders never got to grips as the British Legion infantry were routed by a charge of the Spanish Grenadiers and a unit of Virginia Militia

A fog spread across the battle field as The Second Legion cavalry with a light cannon attached arrived n the rear area.  The American Cavalry commander upset with A Spanish attempt at early glory refused to advance even when the American C-in-C attempted to get him to follow orders.

The game opened with a British Blunder move by the Elite Highland Brigade that took it directly to the right into its own British Legion loyalist regiments! Perhaps next time its one move should be considered as disorder in all brigades penetrated by the movement.

Darkness and fog settled in for day two of the battle to take place on the 5th of July

Black Powder scenario with a few extra troops - while the British left seemed poised to overrun the rebels on the right, the American (French) Dragoons made short work of the British Legion Cavalry and seemed poised to begin a sweeping envelopment of the British Rear as darkness fell Slow deployment of the British allowed the Americans to deploy an important amount of their artillery which played havoc with the British lines and delayed the start of the British attack.

Excellent game seemed everyone had a good time, Rules were basically played RAW with a few minor adjustments - it helped to have two umpires - both of whom had some familiarity with the rules.

Camden in PA Cornwalis and Webster against Gates

Using 28mm AWI - I briefly visited an excellent group of gamers who were doing an AWI action refight of Camden - Sadly no pictures but the command I had of Webster's died gloriously one battalion at a time including the 23rd foot, the 33rd foot and General/Colonel Webster was shot from the saddle dying gloriously defending the regimental flags from pesky vermin militia.
Interesting turn sequences using a named card for each player to decide turn sequence.
Game went fairly quickly. Was going to re introduce the PaWM group to Black Powder but events sadly produced circumstances that saw this Southerner return home via Gettysburg and Gatlinburg Smokies Double AA Chicago Cubs farm club park.

So Fathers Day will see the Black Powder game played with Kennesaw MTN gamers

PS I got lost so many times in PA - I was very happy to come home to the wide open spaces of my southern home.

Donnybrook Pirates at St Powders Cove

Excellent game on the third of May as we celebrated a birthday and played with a surprise set of rules (game was only disrupted by last minute packing but everyone was a trooper and it was fought to an excellent conclusion with the Pirate King almost killed his mistress but stumbled as he tried to fire the fatal shot. The Indian Whang Band escaped with the prisoner who will be ransomed at a later date - perhaps from inside the pirate cove for a split of the ransom? As the Governor will be raiding it to recover slaves and other prisoners and clear out the cove of pirate scalawags and scum. The Governor was late moving up to hold the mistress as he sadly depended on Militia to defend her honor!
