Napoleonic Campaign action 1813 Skirmish Cavalry action

In  a little side action for a PBEM campaign today and inspired by the MBA convention from the weekend a little action near Dresden Skirmish cavalry Brigade French vs Allies - Used a combination of Black Powder and Wellington Wars - Unknown to French Commander one of his Bavarian allied Cavalry regimental commanders had negotiated defecting to the Allies for his regiment to join the alliance cause. At a key point in the Battle the Bavarian Commander defected to the Russians.

The action is 60 miles north of Dresden; 84 Miles east north east of Leipzig

The situation is where the Prussian/Russian forces under  Blucher are
 probing deeper towards an unknown French force.  The Prussians have
 5th Silesian Landwehr Cavalry Regiment while the Russians have
Alexandria Hussar Regiment, Dorpat Chasseur à Cheval  Regiment

 and Gzov #3 Don Cossack Regiment

doing these deep probe  reconnaissance actions.

French won the final skirmishes - Although it was close and even 
> though the Cossacks had beaten the Elite French Hussars in the first 
> round of the final Melee before the Russian Hussars could deliver a

 Broken Brigade rule gave French the win a minor tactical victory

 

 

Rules used were a combination of Wellington's Rules for Random 
> orders and Black Powder for strength and melee values. Other special 
> rules were considered but discarded for ease of play.

Napoleonic Polish defending the Village of Maloystarvets

Used Wellington's Rules again last night - Luke wanted a study break so we broke in these old set of rules. With a battalion of Polish defending the Village of Maloystarvets barricade. The Russians under Luke advanced with a regiment strength brigade against the Poles in full tilt columns of attack with one battalion going into line. The Poles defended gallantly unloading devastating volleys
into the attacking Russians. As Lukes luck would have it he rolled a 4 twice and a 3 for his roll to advance into close combat. Luckily for him the Polish commander was killed by a stray musket round and this forced a morale check on the Polish infantry who fell back a move abandoning the barricade they had defended so well moments before.

the straggler system in these rules is interesting - short range musket fire is devastating.

Napoleonics Battle of Maloyaroslavets

Well today was Black Saturday as the Russians moved to stop the French attempt to flee Moscow to the south.  Attrition would tell the tale as Russian Guard Cossacks stopped a French Column by forcing the lead battalion into square - But the Polish Lancers have crossed the freezing River losing a Squadron being swept down river at the Ford. The resulting battle over the Church grounds is a vicious and bloody affair. We doubled artillery strengths and distances because they seemed a little week.
